Not in Nottingham
Another cover song from the bedroom sessions
Disney’s “Robin Hood” was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I still love it, but as a child I could watch it every day and never get tired of it. The animation is great, Maid Marian is a fox in more than one sense, and the music seems to walk hand and hand with the whole story. And when Robin climbs to the top of a burning castle and jumps into water far below, and Little John and Skippy tear up at the thought that Robin died from the fall… that shit still hits.
Roger Miller voices The Rooster and does a lot of the music in the film. If you’re familiar with “Robin Hood” you likely already know the song “Not in Nottingham.” It’s a great folk song that captures what it’s like to be stuck in a no win situation, but with a glimmer of hope underneath it all. That’s what I get out of it at least.
Here is my cover of “Not in Nottingham.” It’s a sad song, and my voice in nowhere near as good as Roger Miller’s was, but it takes me back to sitting in front of the television with my VHS tape of “Robin Hood” on the screen.
I hope you enjoy it.
And if you’re interested in the original, here’s the version from the movie. You might want to grab tissues.
Thank you for listening!
Is there another Disney movie song you think is better than “Not in Nottingham?”
